How do you recognize good character in your children? We know Godly character is important, but what do you look for to determine where your kids are in this important area?

how to recognize good character in your children

Here is a great checklist to help you recognize good character in your children:

GOOD CHARACTER IS SHOWN BY:

1. Doing right subconsciously, by habit

2. What you do in the dark, or when no one is watching

3. Doing things for others without it being known

4. Doing things before you are asked

5. Doing things for which you are not getting anything

6. Doing things in areas where it will not show

7. Being willing to begin at the bottom

8. What it takes to stop you.

How are your kids are doing in these different areas?

Use this as a checklist as you teach and train your kids. Every now and then just evaluate how they are doing with each area, and where you need to start working or keep working.

Remember that character training is a process, and you won’t see results immediately.

Look for little signs of improvement and growth in their character, and encourage them each time you see them making efforts to do better. (Character Charts To Encourage Growth)

Godly character is the most important fruit you can nurture in your children, and will help them be successful in many areas of life.

Make a commitment to regularly teach and purposefully train your kids in Godly behavior, keeping in mind that it is a major part of bringing your kids up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Your goal should be to mentor their hearts, using God’s Word to help them become more like Jesus.

Sow an action, reap a habit;

Sow a habit, reap character;

Sow character, reap a destiny.

The time and work you put into training your kids, and helping them develop Godly character will not only make a difference in their lives, but will also make them more successful in their service to God!
